Been a long time...
Still waiting on marks for a lot of semester one's assessments, and I still have a 4.5% mark to add to a paper from the blog - can't imagine getting such a high addition for this semester considering this is my first blog post and it's week 6.
My classes this semester are Professional Practice, Service Desk, Website scripting and design and Databases.
BCIS206 Professional Practice - first assessment is a presentation, half the class has done theirs already and I'll be getting my topic later this morning. I'll have two weeks to prepare and deliver.
DICT630 Service Desk - this paper is taught by Philippa, and our first assignment is going to be a day's work experience with David and Andrew. Both good mates of mine, so that's going to be a fun day. Another assignment is to create a document detailing how things happen on the service desk here - which I haven't done a lot of, because I'm so far untrained on how things happen there. Might tee up a time with the guys and discuss it.
*sidenote: I've approached Glenn Balloch at Electronet about doing some work experience on his service desk there. I'm sure he's looked at my CV (thank you Google Drive for showing when someone else is accessing the document!) so I'll contact him again this afternoon and ask if he's given it any more thought.*
DICT510 Databases - this is a class I remember very well from 2005 (shit thats a long time ago now), so this class has been very easy. Normalisation is not a difficult concept to grasp.
The subject for my web design is a multi agency support site for people suffering from any form of abuse. This includes Bullying, domestic violence, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, elder abuse.
Great to be back amongst it. I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead, starting with Network Topology.
Partial Mesh Topology is where you have a group of Nodes, with some of them being connected to each other but not to them all, compared to Mesh Topology where every Node is connected to every other Node .
BCCS198 - I've built Blakes website, once I got the design down pat (complete with scrolling nav menu) it was mostly copy and paste his content into Dreamweaver, and fix up the formatting. I've sent him a copy for his final review, before I submit.
BCIT181 - still have research milestone 3 (prelim. findings) and my Kim Dotcom report to finish before end of term.
DICT440 - quick test today, aced.
BCCS198 - handed in the report, actually ended with Wheatons Law. Don't be a dick is a good rule to live by.
BCCS153 - finished and handed in batch files assignment, pretty sure i did well with this, but waiting on a grade. But with Toms injury, I'm not gonna try and rush him for a the mark.
BCIT181 - have research milestone 3 (prelim. findings) and my Kim Dotcom report to finish before end of term.
DICT440 - Got Yahtzee finished and handed in. spent this morning fluffing up a psuedocode and structure diagrams for it lol.
BCCS283 - scored an A- on my presentation.
DICT520 - finished and handed in the practical assignment, waiting on a grade from Tom.
DICT610 - still have to do the screen recording software assignment. it's not due til end of term, so it's on the back burner.
well I made it !!.......just submitted the last assignment, only have the 400 test and the 420 presentation to go.
Time to get into revision for the 400 test.
that was an interesting exercise, for some reason I started with a preconceived idea that the test had only 10 questions, so after mulling over the first page for an hour I clicked next, the number of question on that page brought the total to more than 10, mmmmm I thought...I then noticed on the top left of the page a wee box, with a lot of squares in it, ....27 squares to be precise....each square representing a question.............again I thought....mmmmmmm . After taking time to manage my now elevated stress level, I put our newly learned time management skills to the test. Unfortunately I missed out a couple of questions, but totally my fault for not having a good read of everything first.
To top it off , after the exam had timed out, it said that everything had been saved, so I checked out a couple of my other papers I am doing........just happened to go back onto the 410 test page........and noticed that it was asking me if I wanted to continue.....for the third time in one day I thought.....mmmmmmmmm, that's strange, the test is finished....so I clicked on it out of curiosity .....and noticed down the bottom.........SUBMIT
Saturday afternoon and about to hook into the final CICT410 assignment, Social Networking, Ethics, and Safety.
Then do some revision for the test on Wednesday. So a weekend of study and assignments ........ but I just may have to dedicate a piece of it to brewing a batch of Beer (Stress Management) .
Jean and I have a new computer, and it is F***ing incredible. I've never used a computer this fast.
BCCS198 - a report for assignment two is all I've been doing lately. This is due the soonest. It'll be a 5-parter, finished 1 and 2, those being Bitcoin and mobile computing, part 3 will talk about some external security breach situation (maybe eBay or PSN), part 4 talks about Ed Snowdens infamous leaks, part 5 is etiquette and culture. I've intersparsed some commentary from the perspective of Tim Berners-Lee's NeXT computer to begin and between chapters 2 and 3, so that's probably how i'll attack part 5.
BCCS153 - write up a batch file that pings a computer continually and logs the results, as a fault-finding operation.
BCIT181 - I need to write up a preliminary finding on the data I've collected, this is milestone 3. Also partway through another report on this paper, about Kim Dotcom.
DICT440 - Much as I'd love to get coding, other assignments have to come first. This is last priority.
BCCS283 - gave my presentation last week, think I did ok. Not much more to say on that.
DICT520 - still have to finish the practical assessment for this.
DICT610 - last assignment here is still the screen recording software one.
Days of solid work, and late nights .......re recording the Macro numerous times .......it is finally done and dusted......I enjoyed the Excel assignment, and will be doing some more experimenting with it in my own time
