      National Certificate in Adult Education and Training (L4 and 5)

      • The National Certificate in Adult Education and Training (L4 and 5)

        During the transition to the new post TRoQ qualifications we are now offering the Level 4 National Certificate, and the Level 5 Certificate as well as various specific standards (like 4098 Assessment and 11551 Moderation).

        We offer this qualification presented in four Modules, each starting with a workshop, with follow up sessions, work online, in small groups and assignments.

        • MODULE 1: The Craft of Teaching | 2017 MODULE 1 OUTLINE
          Your first day in the classroom.  Quality teaching practices.  Assessment, Planning and Attitudes.  Reflective Practice.

        • MODULE 2:  Strategies to Support Active Learning

        • MODULE 3:  Assessment for Learning (and Moderation)

        • MODULE 4:  Design for Learning                   

        • Wrap Up: Final Presentations and Party 

        Each module will be in blended mode, through a mix of face to face workshops, online, VC and self directed applied activities.  Course learning activities will include a wide variety of teaching methods including: workshops, discussions, group activities, simulations, lectures. 

        Course activities and assessments will contribute to the building of reflective practice.

        Studying towards the National Certificate

        You will need:

        1. A laptop/computer access  
        2. Access to the internet and an email address  
        3. A teaching opportunity where you can video for feedback and reflection  
        4. A  suitably experienced and qualified manager or peer to assist with observations and verification 

        If you are doing this for credit towards a certificate, then there is some follow up work and assignments 

        This will include:

        1. Self-directed learning (online and in the workplace) 
        2. Small group sessions: face to face or VC 
        3. Personal mentoring and support: face to face, VC or phone 
        4. Fortnightly sessions with the group 

        Study in blended mode

        What this means is a mix of print, video, face to face presentation.

        You will also need a minimum level of time to juggle your regular teaching, course work, assignments and communication.  If there are any problems for any of these, please let us know.  You will need to know how to organise yourself.

        Assessment is practical and varied

        This will include testing out strategies in your classroom, observation and planning exercises, some action research.

        The amount of time required will include some weekly activities, online work, workplace based training and some reading.

        What is involved

        This is a two-day workshop.  This workshop will provide a basis of theory and concepts on which to build. It is designed to start from the beginning and help with getting oriented and confident as a tutor.
